Chelsea Football Club became a family commitment for Bob and Lynn Wescott as both achieved the distinction of being recognised with Life Memberships for outstanding services to the club over many years.
For Bob, it was a love of the game that saw him progress from the juniors through to the ultimate goal of playing in 1ST XV111 premiership teams. Bob played a vast majority of his football in the reserves, and won two Best and Fairest Awards at that level. But he was often called upon for the big matches and enjoyed the thrill of playing in four senior premiership teams.
Eventually, following the retirement of long time coach Ken Knight, Bob took over the reins of the reserves team and achieved success as his team captured the 1970 flag. He continued in this role for four years before his aging body gave him the message that he had been blessed with a pretty good run of sixteen seasons and a total of 270 games without major injury. It was time to investigate less demanding activities.
One year of relative inactivity and Bob was back in harness as the club’s President, no less. It was a role that he held with distinction for a further three years, during which time the rooms were extended in a major undertaking.
With that task completed, the family finally reduced their heavy involvement to follow other pursuits and reflect on the Life Membership that Bob had so justly been awarded.
