The Club is sad to receive news of the passing of Tony Wearne on 7th July.

Tony played and coached at Chelsea between 1962 and 1976 and over that period he became a loyal and valued member of the Chelsea Football Club Family.

Career: Tony Wearne joined Chelsea 3rd's in 1962 and played his1st Senior Game in 1964. His Senior career with the Club was from 1964 - 1967 and then from 1972 -1976.

Senior Games: 114.
Senior Captain: 1972-74
Senior Coach 1972 - 1973
Senior Premiership: 1966, 1967
League Best & Fairest: Nepean League 1970 and 1971
Team of the Century
Life Member

Having left Chelsea to test himself at a higher level in 1968, Tony Wearne returned to the club as Captain/Coach in 1972. He had become an established on-baller for Oakleigh in the VFA prior to embarking on a three year coaching stint at Bonbeach.

With two Nepean League Best and Fairest awards to his credit, he was high on Chelsea’s list of wants and, once appointed, was able to maintain the club’s high standards of performance over three seasons, before ongoing knee problems eventually ended his playing days.

Tony was a totally committed player who demanded more of himself and his failing body than could ever be expected. His relentless high expectations of himself set a fine example for others to follow.

The Club extends it's condollances to Tony`s family & friends.

R.I.P.
