This photo pretty much says it all—Winston McLeod, despite his warm friendly disposition, was one fierce competitor.
Lured to Chelsea in preference to Edi/Asp, Winnie justified the costs of the new clubrooms almost immediately, as it was  Chelsea’s better facilities that  convinced him to sign on.
So began an amazing relationship that saw Winnie become a key figure in five 1ST XVIII premierships with the Seagulls. The lad from Tatura had immense courage and provided the team with genuine substance for almost a decade. Despite recurrent shoulder problems that would have certainly ended the career of a less determined person, Win was a star. He won three Best & Fairest awards and was always an early selection in the Interleague side and capped off an amazing career with selection in the MPFL Team of the Century in 2009. In some macabre sort of way, Winnie appeared to really cherish his jousts with the tough Carrum sides of the sixties. These were days when he invariably finished the game bruised and battered. Maybe it was the satisfaction of earning the four points that almost always came Chelsea’s way. Winston McLeod will always be a favourite son of the Chelsea Football Club. He was tough, strong, fair and loyal and will be remembered as a footballer who never played in a losing grand final team.
