CHELSEA FOOTBALL CLUB - HOME OF THE SEAGULLS

CHELSEA GRIT

1997 - SEASON REVIEW

On the back of the shock announcement at the 1996 AGM that the Club was in a dire financial position, it was inevitable that the subsequent culling of monies available to The Football Department would have an impact and so that proved to be. Season 1997 saw the Club finish 2nd last in the Seniors, 7th in the 2nd's and 2nd last in the 3rd's, these were indeed tough times.

This was also the year that the 85 year old Carrum Football Club, the very Club that gave Chelsea a start back in 1911, closed it's door's for the last time. This was indeed a warning to all Clubs and administrators that nothing could be taken for granted and that good governance was essential. Mother Club dies.
