Ironically and in Chelsea’s Centenary Year the club  was presented with the opportunity to launch a completely new aspect to its operation— a ladies netball division to compete in the newly formed MPNFL Ladies’ Netball Competition. Could this be the start of a 100 years of netball at Chelsea? Chelsea was one of eight Clubs to enter teams who would follow the football draw as much as possible making Saturdays a real day out for the whole family.
After a hesitant start the concept suddenly clicked into place and the numbers grew to an extent that  the girls were able to field two teams by round 2. Interest had grown and with 20 girls participating the SEAGALS  were enjoying the opportunity to be involved in a competitive manner and share their on-court performances with the men after the game.
Makeshift uniforms were plain black netball skirts and CFC Polo shirts.  After securing sponsors to help with uniform costs, the girls are now sporting navy and white dresses bearing the CFC logo.
The Seagals proved to be very competitive with the A Team finishing sixth with 8 wins from 16 games. The B Team finished third with 10 wins and performed well in their two final’s victories before losing to Seaford in the Grand Final.
The introduction of these teams to the Chelsea landscape has been a wonderful development that will do much to improve the family atmosphere as we move forward.
