Recruited from Frankston after a career with Fitzroy, Grant was a tall centre-half-forward.
A very intense coach, articulate, professional, and having an excellent football brain, Grant devoted a great deal of energy to planning and concentrating on effective match-ups and tactics. He was able to lead the Seagulls to a Grand Final in his only season as coach. Unfortunately the Chelsea team confronted a very strong YCW team and were defeated in a competitive match.
Grant, playing at full forward, contributed fifty goals for the season before retiring as a player at season’s end.
